The Climate Policy Council believes that it is the first time in two decades that changed policy has led to increased emissions.

"Instead of rapidly reducing emissions, changes decided and announced so far, even according to the government's own assessment, will increase emissions in the near future," the report said.

The report has now been handed over to Minister of Climate And Environment Romina Pourmokhtari (L).

" The climate is a fateful issue that requires a holistic approach, both on a local, national and global level. The measures that we decide on during this term of office will be long-term investments that lead to reduced emissions that lead to us reaching the goal of net zero by 2045, says Pourmokhtari.

"A societal transition of this size must be carried out in parallel with creating wealth and growth throughout the country. The policy must be designed in a way that creates the conditions for everyone to change. and that it is feasible for businesses and households. It is a perspective that we bring with us in the design of our work," she continues.

Criticism from the opposition

The report provokes many reactions among opposition parties.

"This is deeply serious. The government receives razor-sharp criticism from the Climate Policy Council", writes the former Minister of Climate and Environment Annika Strandhäll (S) on Twitter.

In the report, however, the previous government that Strandhäll put in criticism is also criticized.

"The climate policy council's overall picture is that the previous government lost pace in climate policy at the end of its term of office" can be read in this year's report.

Märta Stenevi (MP) has also reacted to the report and is criticizing the government.

"The government's so-called climate policy is a slap in the face for both current and future generations. But it doesn't have to be that way!", writes Stenevi.
