In Vilhelmina, there is a need for staff for nursing homes, home care, group homes of various kinds and personal assistants. Last summer, employees had to move vacations and work overtime. This cost the municipality over SEK 3 million. It was also tiring for the staff.

"Of course, we hope that the offer means that we will not have such extensive costs this summer. But the purpose is above all for our regular staff to get much-needed vacation, because they step in and line up all year round, says Jenny Örnberg, social manager in Vilhelmina municipality.

Hope that mountain life attracts

110 summer substitutes are needed in Vilhelmina municipality to cope with the summer, but only 34 have applied. Now the municipality hopes that people from other municipalities will take advantage of the offer of free housing.

"We try to be attractive and hope that we will get feedback. We hope that people from outside will want to come here and work. People may want to make a change of scenery and take the opportunity to be in the mountains and get a rich wildlife in parallel with the work day, says Jenny Örnberg.

The municipality offers free accommodation in the student home or a subsidy for housing up to SEK 4,000 per month for holiday substitutes.
