Jimmy Falk is doing his PhD in physiotherapy at Luleå University of Technology. During his third thesis, he has chosen to focus on whether cognitive training can help older people from falling or slipping. Falls affect every third person over 65 every year.

"In addition to physical injuries and deaths, falls also cause fear in many elderly people. There is a risk of a vicious spiral where fear of falling leads to inactivity and isolation, says Jimmy Falk.

Balance exercises

In the test, in addition to answering questions and receiving a training program, the subjects also test their balance in various exercises. Siv Brännström was curious about the project and describes it as scary.

"Closing your eyes and standing on one leg was very scary. But overall it felt good and I got a good feeling about why I had been afraid of falling or slipping earlier," she says.
