• Keys The Government establishes by law 20 types of family, abolishes "large families" and approves new permits for "care"
  • Coalition The barons of the PSOE regret going to 28-M "with the ballast of Podemos" in Moncloa

Despite the fact that the legislature is dying, the Government wants to keep alive its social vital signs. Continue promoting initiative to convey that the work continues, that the Council of Ministers continues to endorse measures designed for a social majority, as they say in the Executive. This is the purpose of the approval of the preliminary draft of the family law in the second round. A milestone that, however, reveals the situation of tension and discomfort that exists within the coalition. Minister Ione Belarra had asked to appear to shell this law that is promoted from her Ministry, but Moncloa has considered it more convenient that Nadia Calviño and José Luis Escrivá leave. A decision that has caused discomfort in Podemos.

Given this situation, minutes before the usual press conference after the Council of Ministers took place in the presidential complex, Belarra has published a video on his social networks, explaining the regulations, which now goes to the parliamentary process in the Congress of Deputies. "Spain has an emergency of conciliation," said the minister. Among the main novelties provided by this law is the implementation of a new architecture with three permits, which put care and time at the center and gives support to families.

Thus, a paid care leave of five days a year is established, which can be used in case of serious accident or illness, hospitalization or surgical intervention without hospitalization that needs rest, both for a family member up to the second degree and for a cohabitant, something new until now; a parental leave of eight weeks, which may be taken continuously or discontinuously, full-time or part-time, until the child reaches the age of eight, and a third new leave "due to force majeure", which will be distributed by hours and may reach a total of up to four days per year. The latter will be paid and seeks to allow parents to take time off from work when there are urgent and unforeseeable family reasons.
