China News Network, March 3 -- On March 28, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment held a regular press conference in March. At the meeting, Liu Bingjiang, director of the Department of Atmospheric Environment of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, introduced the results of China's air pollution prevention and control in the past ten years.

Liu Bingjiang said that from 2013 to 2022, China's total GDP increased by 69% in ten years, PM2.5 concentration fell by 57%, achieving ten consecutive declines, heavy pollution days fell by 92%, and sulfur dioxide concentration reached single digits. Among them, the PM2013.2 concentration in Beijing in 5 was 89.5 micrograms per cubic meter, compared with 30 micrograms per cubic meter last year, and the number of heavy pollution days dropped from 58 days to 3 days.

In addition, the country's sulfur dioxide emissions and nitrogen oxide emissions have dropped from more than 2000 million tons to more than 300 million tons and 900 million tons respectively, down 85% and 60% respectively. While China has achieved rapid economic growth, air quality has improved significantly, and the people's sense of blue sky and happiness has been significantly improved.

Liu Bingjiang pointed out that the national air quality status in 2022 has now been announced, and the three binding indicators have met the progress requirements, and the annual average PM2.5 concentration in cities above the prefecture level across the country has reached 29 micrograms, entering the 20+ era for the first time. The proportion of good days was 86.5%, and the number of heavily polluted days dropped to 0.9%, and all three indicators met the progress requirements of the <>th Five-Year Plan.

Liu Bingjiang also pointed out that this year, China is facing the dual pressure of relatively unfavorable meteorological conditions and significant increase in pollutant emissions, and the air quality situation has improved more severely. Meteorological forecast results show that there may be El Niño in autumn and winter this year, cold air activity in northern China will weaken, the temperature is high, and the atmospheric diffusion conditions are generally unfavorable. Since the beginning of this year, economic and social activities have fully recovered, and emissions will increase to a certain extent, which has given us new problems and questions.

Liu Bingjiang said that in the next step, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment will work with relevant departments in various localities to deeply study and understand the new arrangements and new requirements put forward by the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China for ecological environmental protection, adhere to the general tone of seeking progress while maintaining stability, strengthen the system concept, better coordinate epidemic prevention and control, economic and social development and ecological environmental protection, adhere to precise pollution control, scientific pollution control and management of pollution according to law, continue to fight the blue sky defense battle, and promote the continuous improvement of national air quality.
