Chinese President Xi Jinping held a phone call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in which he expressed his country's readiness to expand cooperation with Saudi Arabia and continue to support dialogue between Riyadh and Tehran.

The Chinese president also expressed his country's readiness to work with Saudi Arabia to implement the outcomes of the three Riyadh summits and expand cooperation between the two countries to achieve a comprehensive strategic partnership.

Xi said the two countries will firmly support each other on issues related to the core of each other's interests.

Chinese state media also quoted Xi as saying that China and Saudi Arabia would make more contributions to promoting peace, stability and development in the Middle East.

In the same context, the Saudi Press Agency said that the Saudi crown prince expressed the Kingdom's appreciation for the Chinese initiative to develop good-neighborly relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Invitation to visit

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian confirmed that President Ebrahim Raisi had received an invitation from Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz to visit Riyadh. Abdollahian added in an interview with Al Jazeera that Tehran would respond with a similar invitation.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) also reported that Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and his Iranian counterpart agreed to meet this month Ramadan.

On March 10, Saudi Arabia and Iran announced the resumption of diplomatic relations and the reopening of embassies within two months, following Chinese-sponsored talks in Beijing, according to a joint statement by the three countries.

The Saudi-Iranian agreement came after Beijing hosted Saudi-Iranian talks between the sixth and tenth of March "in response to an initiative by Chinese President Xi Jinping, and in agreement with the leaderships of the Kingdom and the Republic of Iran and their desire to resolve differences," according to the statement.

In January 2016, Saudi Arabia severed ties with Iran following attacks on Riyadh's embassy in Tehran and consulate in the eastern Iranian city of Mashhad.
