At the seminar themed "Economic Development Cooperation between China and ASEAN Countries in the New Situation", Romel Banleyi, Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the China Studies Center of the School of International Relations of the Philippine University of the New Century Century, said that China and the Philippines are important partners of each other and share major common interests and common values in the fields of marine environmental research, joint fishery management, disaster search and rescue, and combating transnational crimes.

"In particular, in February this year, the Philippine Senate formally approved the ratification of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and the Philippines' accession to this trade agreement is another milestone in deepening regional cooperation and improving global supply chains." Ban Leyi said.

Ban Leyi pointed out that through a series of dialogues and agreements, the Philippines and China continue to maintain close exchanges, which is conducive to promoting practical cooperation in various bilateral fields and jointly promoting the stability and long-term development of China-Philippines relations.

Anna Marimborg Uyi, deputy director and vice president for foreign affairs of the Philippine Institute for Asian Century Strategy, believes that both the Philippines and China are willing to deepen good-neighborly and friendly relations through friendly consultations.

She stressed that the profound friendship forged by the leaders of the older generation of the Philippines and China has been continuously achieved new development under the careful nurturing of successive generations of leaders of the two countries. "In recent years, the cooperation between the two sides in economy, trade and investment has increased significantly, and China has become the Philippines' largest trading partner, largest export market, largest source of imports, second largest source of foreign investment and second largest source of tourists."

Qu Qiang, assistant director of the Institute of International Monetary Research at Chinese Minmin University, said, "In the past three years, the industry of [China] importing coconuts from the Philippines has grown very fast because the quality of Philippine coconuts is very good. Trade relations between China and the Philippines are getting better and better, because the tariff issue has been solved and many agreements have been signed. We are seeing this import grow very rapidly and to a large extent it has also benefited farmers in the Philippines. I think through trade, China and the Philippines have a better relationship. ”

Ji Xianbai, executive director of the Center for International Political Economy at the School of International Relations of Chinese Minmin University, pointed out that 2023 is the tenth anniversary of the "Belt and Road" initiative and the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, and China-Philippines economic cooperation can and should be carried out within the framework of the "Belt and Road" initiative and a community with a shared future for mankind.

Wang Bing, associate researcher of International Mining Research at University of Science and Technology Beijing, mentioned that China and the Philippines have common interests in carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, and green and low-carbon development is an important starting point for both sides to jointly achieve carbon peaking and achieve low-carbon development goals for mankind in the future, and effectively solve the current resource development problems.

At the seminar, Chinese and Philippine experts also held in-depth discussions and exchanged views on deepening bilateral economic and trade relations, maintaining regional stability, and strengthening environmental cooperation. (End)
