According to Israeli media, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to deliver a speech at 9:30 a.m. Swedish time on Monday to address this weekend's protests and the bill to reform the justice system.

Reports over the weekend have suggested he may be ready to pause the legislative process. Whether this would be merely a pause or a total withdrawal of the bill is unclear.

The package of laws gives parliament more power at the expense of the judiciary. Among other things, parliament could review decisions made by the Supreme Court. The proposal has sparked massive protests and has also been criticized by Netanyahu's own ministers and the country's president who are calling on the prime minister to withdraw the proposal.

The announcement that Netanyahu will put the bill on hold was met with direct criticism from the Zionist Religious Party led by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich. "Under no circumstances can the bill be stopped" the party said in a statement, according to the Haaretz newspaper.

Protests are scheduled to continue on Monday, including a demonstration at the Knesset parliament.
