• 5:11 a.m.: Ukraine's war-mongered democracy summit

US President Joe Biden is once again holding a democracy summit. It will open on Tuesday with a virtual conversation on peace in Ukraine with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

For this second edition, which will be largely virtual and will last three days, the US president invited no less than 121 world leaders, eight more than two years ago.

Ukraine called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Sunday (March 26th) to counter Russia's "nuclear blackmail". Indeed, Vladimir Putin announced that Moscow would deploy nuclear weapons in Belarus.

"Ukraine expects effective actions to counter the Kremlin's nuclear blackmail by the UK, China, the US and France" as permanent members of the UN Security Council, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said in a statement, also calling on the G7 and the EU to put pressure on Minsk.

The United States wants to avoid any escalation, while Vladimir Putin has said he wants to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, reports France 24 Washington correspondent Matthieu Mabin.
