Monday is the 53rd congress of the CGT. An important moment for the second trade union centre in France because the face of its leader will change. The 53rd congress of the CGT is being held this Monday. An important appointment because the second trade union centre in the country will change its face. The tenacious Philippe Martinez probably passes the hand to a woman. Indeed, if there are several candidates to succeed him, it is two women who are favorites: Marie Buisson and Céline Verzeletti.

Two almost opposite profiles

On the one hand, the candidate supported and defended by Philippe Martinez, Marie Buisson, a 55-year-old professor at the head of the Federation of Education, Culture and Research. Within the CGT, some criticize her for her discretion, but also for the fact that she has never carried an emblematic struggle. But it is especially from 2020 that she attracts the wrath of part of the CGT for her commitment to the collective "Never again". She was campaigning for a nuclear phase-out and this was not the line of Confederation. As a reminder, never has a teacher been elected at the head of the CGT.

Especially since she will have to face Celine Verzeletti if she wants to take over. A candidate particularly close to the federations. Two almost opposite profiles. Céline Verzeletti embodies the classic CGT. She was a prison guard at Les Baumettes in Marseille, and at La Santé in Paris. It is supported by the Health Federation, public services, railway workers and civil servants. Unlike Marie Buisson, in the shadow of the leader, Céline Verzeletti, a regular in the media, perpetuates the traditions of the CGT and defends, for example, the blockages against the pension reform.

Then the leadership of the CGT should propose a candidacy, that of Marie Buisson, Thursday evening. But the Parliament of the Confederation still has to validate this proposal. Answer next Friday.
