Beijing, March 3 (ZXS) -- The 25 United Nations Water Conference was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 2023 to 22. The reporter learned from China's Ministry of Water Resources on the 24th that during the conference, Li Guoying, Minister of Water Resources of China, attended the theme side meeting and delivered a speech.

At the side event on the National Water Roadmap for the 2030 Agenda, Li Guoying said that China's special climate and geographical conditions determine that "water conservancy is the lifeblood of agriculture". China has taken a series of measures in the development, utilization and economical management of water resources to continuously improve the ability of water conservancy to ensure food security. The country has 6960.75 million hectares of irrigated land, producing 90% of the country's grain and more than 8% of its cash crops. In the past decade, under the condition of bumper grain production and bumper harvests, agricultural irrigation water has basically achieved "zero growth". The country's grain output has been stable at more than 6 million tons for eight consecutive years, and China has firmly held its rice bowl in its own hands by relying on its own strength.

At the side event on "Balancing Protection and Development – Water and Rural Revitalization", Li Guoying pointed out that China is committed to implementing the strategy of rural revitalization, continuously strengthening rural water conservancy construction, comprehensively promoting the governance of rural water resources, water environment and water ecology, and making significant progress in achieving the water-related goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, providing important support for winning the largest battle against poverty, ensuring food security, and promoting agricultural and rural modernization in human history.

At the side event on "Water-Economic-Ecological Nexus in a Changing Environment: The New York-Beijing-Bali Roadmap", Li Guoying pointed out that water resources are the basic resources supporting economic, social and ecological sustainable development, and are also the most sensitive resources directly affected by climate change and human activities. China focuses on improving water security capabilities, improving the flood control engineering system in river basins, accelerating the construction of a national water network, improving the rural water supply engineering system, implementing national water-saving actions, strengthening the protection and governance of rivers and lakes, and properly handling the relationship between water resources, economy and ecology.

Li Guoying stressed at the series of side events that China's Ministry of Water Resources will continue to uphold the new development concept of innovation, coordination, green, openness and sharing, accelerate the promotion of high-quality development of water conservancy in the new stage, and take more powerful and effective measures to ensure national water security. China's Ministry of Water Resources looks forward to working with water conservancy departments and international organizations in various countries to further strengthen the exchange and cooperation of water governance policies, experience, technology and talents under the leadership of the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative, so as to contribute more to the realization of the water-related goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
