• War in Ukraine Ukraine announces the withdrawal of Russian troops from a city in Kherson and then backs down

The president of Ukraine, Volodímir Zelenski, visited on Thursday the southern region of Kherson, from whose northern third Russian troops withdrew in November, after traveling the day before to the region of Kharkiv and the front of Bakhmut, where less than 3,500 civilians resist and Russian mercenaries lose oxygen, according to Kiev. This is the second visit of the president to Kherson after the one he made on November 14, three days after having liberated the regional capital and the right bank of the Dnieper River in the homonymous province, which Russia annexed in September along with the regions of Lugansk, Donetsk and Zaporizhia.

For their part, the European Commission (EC) and Poland will organize a conference with the purpose of helping to locate the 16,200 Ukrainian children deported by Russia to their territory during that country's war of aggression against its neighbor." In partnership with Ukrainians, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and I have launched an initiative to repatriate Ukrainian children abducted by Russia," EC President Ursula von der Leyen announced at the end of the first day of the European Union leaders' summit in Brussels.

Ukraine announces an imminent counteroffensive in Bajmut and asks to accelerate the delivery of weapons

Ukraine announced on Thursday an imminent counteroffensive in Bakhmut (east) and warned its European allies that the delay in the delivery of fighter jets and long-range missiles could perpetuate war with Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the southern region of Kherson, partially occupied by Russian troops, the day after he appeared on the front line near Bakhmut.

On the train back to Kiev, he described the devastation of that area after more than a year of war, in a video intended for European Union leaders gathered at a summit in Brussels. He thanked the EU for the decision to send more projectiles to Ukraine, but insisted on getting modern fighter jets to fight the Russians. "We cannot delay the transfer of weapons to our soldiers, who can protect Ukrainians from terror," Zelensky said, Zelenskiy said in the video.

Slovakia announced that it had delivered a first batch of four MiG-29 fighters, out of a total of thirteen promised. But the rest of the bloc has so far refused to deliver to Ukraine aircraft produced and built in Western countries.

The Ukrainian army announced during the day that Russian troops had withdrawn from the town of Nova Kakhovka, in the Kherson region, but then admitted that it was an erroneous information, which had already been denied by Russia.
