Despite strong protests, Linköping's Children and Youth Committee decided on Thursday to close several preschools and comprehensive schools, several of which already in the autumn.

The reason is that rental costs have risen at the same time as the number of students is expected to shrink. The ruling politicians want as much of the budget as possible to go to school staff, and not to local costs.

The fight continues

But criticism from parents, students and school staff has been strong. And the opposition politicians have not given up.

And since the two governing parties, the Social Democrats and the Moderates, do not have a majority in the city council, there is actually a possibility that they will be voted down there.

But that presupposes that the issue is raised there. And that all the other parties, from left to right, manage to unite.
