At Riksglasskolan in Nybro, students can today study several different basic programmes. Most students have since gone on to the higher one-year polytechnic education "Design and Art Glass".
Earlier this year, however, the Swedish Agency for Higher Vocational Education chose not to give the go-ahead for the higher one-year continuation education. The reason given was that Riksglasskolan did not fill all 16 training places.
The education, which has existed for twelve years and is the only one in the Nordic countries, was in danger of disappearing.
Continued high education in art glass
Now, however, Nybro municipality and Öland's folk high school have entered into an agreement on a new education in design and art glass, which they say essentially includes the same courses as the discontinued education.
The programme will be offered from the autumn semester 2023, be for one year and be aimed at people with previous experience in glassblowing and processing who want to deepen their knowledge and creativity in the material glass.
