The 36-year-old man from Uppsala, the so-called "Kurdish fox", is believed to be abroad and is today suspected of a number of crimes, including preparation for murder and particularly serious drug smuggling. In addition, according to SVT's police sources, he is being put in connection with the wave of violence that is sweeping over Sweden this winter.

The man has been known to the police for a long time, among other things, he was convicted in 2009 by Uppsala District Court of handling smuggled cocaine from the Netherlands, which resulted in a long prison sentence for serious drug offenses. He has also been convicted of receiving stolen goods and running various kiosk operations in Uppsala.

Took a market share

"When he mucked out of prison in 2018, he went from being a person who had spent a large part of his adult life inside to taking a large part of the market share of drug smuggling, especially in central Sweden, according to the police's suspicions," says SVT's crime reporter Diamant Salihu.

The police could see this when they gained access to decrypted chats between a large number of criminals in Sweden in 2020.

The police reportedly did not pay attention to the extent of his position in the drug market before they saw the chats.

Police officers surprised

"My impression is that he flew under the radar at first," Salihu says. Many police officers I've had contact with are surprised at how quickly he's been able to build some kind of drug empire.

"Then a kind of cat and mouse game followed with the police. By then, the "Fox" had left the country. First for Iraq, and he will now be in Turkey, where he has become a citizen.

SVT's reporter Diamant Salihu has for a long time followed the man and also in a SVT documentary tried to seek him out in Turkey, hear him in the clip above.
