It was on December 13, 2021 that an ambulance was alerted to a man in Degerfors who had pain in his chest. But the ambulance nurses did not take an ECG and the man himself had to drive to the emergency room in Karlskoga.

Ivo remarks that the examination of the patient was not sufficiently thorough. "This delayed the time to definitive care as the patient was in a direct life-threatening medical condition" writes Ivo.

The man was taken directly to the University Hospital in Örebro for emergency coronary artery intervention.

Criticism of the region

Ivo notes that Region Örebro's investigation of the incident shows that the staff at the ambulance station in question to a lesser extent than other ambulance stations check ECG to rule out heart disease in patients. Ivo criticizes the region for not having previously discovered the shortcomings in terms of following its own routines.
