It was on April 1, 2011 that a 14-year-old girl was gang-raped on Ribbersborgsstranden in Malmö.

A few months later, the case was dropped because it failed to match the DNA traces with any person on its record.

But in January this year, the police got hit, reports Sydsvenskan.

32-year-old detained

Two men were then arrested on suspicion of an assault on Nydala and since none of the people had previously been punished, their DNA was taken and sent to the National Forensic Center who ran the results against various records.

One of the two men matched with the DNA traces that police secured at the crime scene, 12 years earlier.

A 32-year-old man is now in custody on probable cause on suspicion of aggravated child rape.

Two more men have been arrested

According to the arrest affidavit, the man is being remanded in custody on the grounds, among other things, that there is a risk that he would remove evidence or otherwise complicate the investigation.

Two more men were arrested Wednesday, but are not linked to the abuse through DNA.
