The demonstrators are preparing again to beat the pavement against the pension reform this Thursday. High school students, hitherto little present in the demonstrations because of the baccalaureate, intend to join the mobilization.

A new day of mobilization is looming this Thursday. For the inter-union, the goal is to bring together as many people as during the demonstration of March 7 when more than a million people marched in the streets. According to Philippe Martinez, leader of the CGT, only young people can contribute to swing the movement against the pension reform. High school students, not very present at previous demonstrations, decided to enter the dance.

Demobilization because of the ferry

High school students are now freed from a certain weight: their specialty tests are over, most of the baccalaureate is among other things a continuous control, and their Parcoursup file is almost complete.

"There was a kind of demobilization because of the ferry. We had to focus on our baccalaureate and we are in a period of constant stress especially because of the continuous control which constitutes 40% of the final grade. Now that the tests are over, we will be in the street, in front of the high schools and we will be all the more determined to block," said Ephram Strzalka-Beloeil, vice-president of the high school union La Voix lycéenne.

A 49.3 contested by young people

The use of 49.3 has also marked young people who have never demonstrated. "It's really the opposite of what we learn in high school, which is that democracy is power by the people. What high school students see when they turn on their TV is a political crisis and the government bypassing the vote of parliamentarians," he said.

According to the union's estimates, at least 300 high schools are expected to experience attempts to block this Thursday.
