In the Oita gubernatorial election, two newcomers ran for office.
The two candidates running in the Oita gubernatorial election are newcomers who are independents, both in order of filing: Sumi Adachi (53), a former member of the House of Councillors,
and Juichiro Sato (65), a former mayor of Oita City.
The governor, who served five terms, has announced his retirement, and this is the first election campaign between newcomers in 5 years.
Mr. Sato, a former mayor of Oita, has been endorsed by the LDP and Komeito prefectural headquarters.
On the other hand, Mr. Adachi, who was elected four years ago by opposition parties fighting together, did not seek nominations from political parties this time, and the election is a head-to-head contest between Mr. Sato and Mr. Adachi.
Mr. Adachisumi said, "I want to create a new Oita Prefecture, and to that end, I want to value the voices of those who are working hard in the field and make Oita Prefecture the best human resource development prefecture Japan from the bottom up, not from the top down. I would like to break the precedent-based system and change the prefectural government to one by one."
Mr. Juichiro Sato said, "I would like Governor Hirose to play a role in continuing, inheriting, and greatly developing the prefectural government that he has been working on.
