In mid-January, a preliminary investigation was initiated into serious war crimes in Syria. Two people are listed as plaintiffs.

According to his defense lawyer Per Swahn, the man and his family have lived and worked civilly in Syria, and never had any connection to any terrorist organization.

- He denies any wrongdoing and is utterly heartbroken for the suspicions. He has never participated in any strife," Swahn said.

Shortly after the crimes were allegedly committed, he came as a refugee to Ronneby, where today, according to the defender, he lives an ordinary life with a job.

"It's difficult with crimes that are so far back in time. I don't know on what grounds he is accused, or what it is that should have happened," Swahn said.

The suspected man, a man in his 50s from Ronneby, was arrested early Tuesday morning. The detention hearing will be held on Friday.

In 2015, there was heavy fighting in Syria, between government forces, guerrilla groups and the Islamic State.
