The street lighting that does not meet the conditions of 1989 will be taken down. It is about 1,500 poles and in several smaller communities in rural areas around Tierp municipality.

"If we get a lighting plan through, the next step is that there are clear guidelines and investments for lighting," says Mio Tatsas Viktorsson, group leader for tierpslistan.

"Needs to be updated"

Anna Persson, who is head of growth and community building at Tierp municipality, also believes that the decision from 1989 should be clarified. Therefore, officials in the municipality are working on developing a new lighting plan.

"We see a need to update it," she says.

How this should be done, the politicians do not agree on at the moment.

But until a new lighting plan has been developed – and decided with the associated budget – the decision taken in 1989 applies.
