Beijing, 3 Mar (ZXS) -- Affected by the largest range of sand and dust processes since the beginning of this year, the scope of serious sand and dust pollution in China continued to expand on 22 March. Beijing, Tianjin, as well as Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang and other provinces have serious air quality pollution, among which Beijing, Tianjin, Lanzhou, Xining, Yinchuan and other cities have exploded in air quality indexes.

The Beijing Meteorological Observatory upgraded and issued a yellow warning signal for sandstorms at 3:22 on March 05. The picture shows the morning peak of work that day, and there has been obvious sand and dust weather in Beijing. Photo by Sheng Jiapeng, reporter of China News Agency

Since the 21st, affected by the windy weather at the back of the Mongolian low pressure, a wide range of sand has occurred in the central and eastern sand sources. On the night of the 21st, the low-pressure system continued to develop to the east, the northwest wind speed increased significantly, the sand and dust entered China at night, the sand and dust band width was large, and the concentration of inhalable particulate matter (PM10) in a large area from the northeast to Gansu reached a serious pollution level, and the peak value of some stations was close to 10000,<> micrograms per cubic meter.

Monitoring shows that at 3 o'clock on March 22, the air quality in Beijing, Tianjin, Taiyuan, Baoji, Hotan and other places was seriously polluted, and the main pollutant was PM8, among which Beijing, Tianjin, Baoding, Zhangjiakou, Cangzhou, Datong, Hohhot, Baotou, Qiqihar, Yulin, Lanzhou, Xining, Yinchuan and other cities had an hourly value of air quality index (AQI) of 10 or more, and there was a burst.

On March 3, Baoding City, Hebei Province, the local area ushered in sand and dust weather, and the visibility of the urban area was significantly reduced. Figure/ICphoto

According to the forecast of the China Environmental Monitoring Station, on the 22nd, the air quality in East China, most of South China and Southwest China will be excellent, and light pollution may occur locally; Northeast China, Northwest China and North China are dominated by good to light pollution, and the central and southern parts of North China gradually change from light to moderate pollution to good to light pollution. Hexi in Gansu, western Inner Mongolia, eastern Qinghai, most of Ningxia and north-central Shaanxi are affected by the sand and dust weather process, and the air quality is mainly light to moderate pollution, and severe or above pollution may occur locally. Northeast and North China may be affected by blowing sand or floating dust weather, and there is a risk of short-term severe pollution; Parts of north-central South China and the Sichuan Basin may be lightly polluted due to the sand and dust transport process.
