It was in August 2020 that the woman undertook to be a public defender for the man, who was then suspected of attempted murder. She did so despite the fact that since the spring of that year they had a close personal relationship, which she herself described as a romance.
Only when a prosecutor denounced the inappropriateness of this did she resign the assignment.
According to the Disciplinary Board of the Swedish Bar Association, the woman's actions meant that she had seriously failed to meet the requirements for independence and integrity placed on a lawyer and she was expelled from the society.
The woman appealed to the HD who on Wednesday announced that the decision would stand. Even the court finds that the woman violated the requirement of independence and integrity.
"The assignment concerned a case of very serious crime and the lawyer only resigned after just over a month after a prosecutor pointed out the inappropriateness of her possession. The Supreme Court finds that this conduct and certain other circumstances lead to the lawyer being expelled from the Bar Association," hd writes in a press release.
