Gwyneth Paltrow (50) is again involved in a controversy. She won an Oscar, a Golden Globe and two Screen Actors Guild Awards for her portrayal of Viola de Lesseps in the film Shakespeare in Love but this week has grabbed British headlines for facing a lawsuit from a retired optometrist who accuses her of violently crashing into him while skiing at a luxury ski resort in the United States.

It left him unconscious and brain injured

The alleged accident occurred in February 2016 and the trial began Tuesday in court in Park City (Utah). The actress has been seen, according to the Daily Mail, in the vicinity emerging from a black SUV and wearing a long coat, sunglasses and boots with Celine laces.

On this first day of trial, the other British media outlet, The Guardian, has echoed the version of the plaintiff, Terry Sanderson, 76. According to this optometrist, Paltrow descended the slopes "so recklessly that they collided and left him on the ground" while the actress with her friends continued her descent through Deer Valley Resort, known for its elegant clientele.

"Gwyneth Paltrow skied out of control," Sanderson's attorneys claim in the lawsuit, "knocking him down hard, knocking him unconscious and causing him a brain injury, four broken ribs and other serious injuries. Paltrow got up, turned around and skied away, leaving Sanderson stunned, lying in the snow, seriously injured."

Sanderson has sued Paltrow for $300,000 alleging that the accident in Park City was "negligent" and left him "physically injured and emotionally distressed."

The optometrist has also accused the luxury ski resort, Deer Valley, of participating in a "cover-up" by failing to provide full information about the accident and "failing to follow the safety policies" of the resort.
