Actually, it's not news to any politician: Pushing your own policy proposals that contradict the party line is always difficult.

The more controversial the proposals, the more sensitive it becomes, and the higher up in the organization you are, the harsher the internal reactions will be.

This is what KD's EU parliamentarian Sara Skyttedal is now experiencing. She has received a lot of media attention around her statements both about her own use of drugs and her proposals to legalize cannabis and her own use.

Seen with unflinching eyes

These statements run counter to the Christian Democrats' decided policy and have been seen with unblinking eyes by the party leadership.

This question was also the trigger behind the conflict between former party secretary Johan Ingerö and Sara Skyttedal.

Among other things, Ingerö wanted to stop Skyttedal's participation in SVT's program 30 minutes, where her views on drugs and cannabis were an important topic.

In connection with the altercation between the two, Skyttedal also chose to report Ingerö to the police for sexual harassment, which according to the report took place several years ago. Ingerö was immediately forced to resign.

Wanted to minimize negative publicity

According to Ebba Busch, however, Ingerö's days as party secretary were already numbered. There has been dissatisfaction with the way he has handled the job of party secretary, according to the party leader.

However, the idea was to change party secretary in an orderly manner later in the spring.

When Skyttedal's complaint was made, however, the decision was quickly made to depose him, in order to minimize the negative publicity for the party.

Now it looks like KD-gate could reap yet another victim. At a meeting with the Parliamentary Journalists' Association on Tuesday, Ebba Busch publicly aired his criticism of Sara Skyttedal's statements about drugs.

Open warning to Skyttedal

Ebba Busch stated that "you cannot represent the party as an elected official and use drugs". She also said that Skyttedal had expressed her views in a "careless manner".

This is very harsh criticism from a party leader of an individual politician.

KD's party leader also highlighted the upcoming nomination process within the Christian Democrats ahead of the European Parliament elections next year and said that what has happened has affected confidence internally in Skyttedal.

It is the party's members and its nomination committee that decide whether Sara Skyttedal should be on the party's list before the election.

The party leader's harsh criticism can be interpreted as an open warning to Skyttedal to align himself in the ranks. The demand for her on the part of the party leadership is to stop using drugs and stop arguing for legalization.

Internal position weakens

The message from Ebba Busch is crystal clear: You cannot represent KD and at the same time use drugs. It is thus the traditional party whip that wines.

At the same time, Sara Skyttedal is one of the Christian Democrats' most high-profile politicians. She is combative and well-known and has so far been seen as a great asset to the party.

However, the party leader's criticism of her actions means that her position internally weakens, and the question is what will happen during this spring's nomination process.

It is not a given that Sara Skyttedal will gain the party's confidence for another term in the European Parliament, even if she aligns herself in the ranks.
