Every year, approximately 300 children have been born at Lycksele BB. Now the birth has been closed since Christmas and there is no date yet set for when the ward can reopen.

Pregnant women in the hinterland and Lycksele are referred to hospitals on the coast for the time being. They get to choose between taking their own car and getting compensation from the region, or taxi. In some cases, it can be about a journey of 40 miles one way to Umeå or Skellefteå.

"It's not good that women should have to take taxis. But we have no other option. I cannot urge the women to go to Lycksele when it is now closed. In addition, ambulance resources are very strained in the hinterland, says Olof Grankvist, head of women's healthcare in Region Västerbotten.

In the video, you hear taxi driver Simon about what he thinks about driving pregnant women with aches.
