The money began to be distributed in 2016 and has been between SEK 1.5 million and SEK 800,000 for Eskilstuna. In May, it will be announced how much grant money will be distributed for the coming academic year. A sum that will be significantly lower than the last one.

"At best, it will be half," says Mikael Källarsson, head of the cultural school.

Support may disappear completely

There is also currently no decision to extend the state subsidy, which may mean that it will disappear completely by 2024. Something that will primarily affect the cultural school's open activities, which offer free cultural activities for children in Fröslunda, Årby, Lagersberg, Skiftinge and Nyfors.

"We are usually on site at meeting places and youth recreation centres where children and young people are," says Mikael Källarsson, who at the same time points out that the cuts may affect the cultural school in other ways as well.

"In the worst case, it is services that disappear and this directly affects the opportunities to receive students.
