This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.

"The special representatives of the three countries sharply condemned the launch of a ballistic missile by North Korea as a violation of a number of UN Security Council resolutions and a provocation that threatens peace in the region and on the Korean Peninsula," the report said.

The parties also agreed to continue strengthening cooperation in order to "lead a resolute and unified response of the international community" to the provocations of the DPRK.

Earlier, the Yonhap agency, citing the South Korean military, reported on the launch of a ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan from the DPRK.

Subsequently, the military clarified that a short-range ballistic missile was fired from the area of the Tongchangni test site.

Japan protested to North Korea through diplomatic channels amid North Korea's latest missile test.
