Los Angeles, 3 Mar (ZXS) -- Activities to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the completion of the Sino-US friendship wall of the "Flying Tigers" and the fifth anniversary of the death of Chen Xiangmei, widow of General Chennault, commander of the "Flying Tigers" and "envoy of friendship" between China and the United States, were held in Los Angeles, United States, on 18 March local time.

The event was hosted by the Flying Tigers Communication Association of America. Wang Qi, director of the Consular Office of the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles, An Mingshuo, consul of overseas Chinese, Meixin Zhao, member of the US Congress, Zhang Sujiu, a well-known overseas Chinese leader in the United States and honorary chairman of the Southern California Federation of Chinese Organizations, Neil Kelway, granddaughter of General Chennault, and Mel McMullen, a ninety-year-old veteran of the "Flying Tigers," attended the meeting.

Wang Qi said that the commemorative activities are conducive to promoting the joint remembrance of the history of the "Flying Tigers" between China and the United States. China and the United States should learn from history, face the future, take peace as the theme, work together to safeguard China-US friendship, and promote the healthy and stable development of China-US relations.

Five years ago, Zhang Sujiu attended the inauguration ceremony of the Sino-US friendship wall of the "Flying Tigers" Sino-US Friendship Wall. When she came here again that day, she felt a lot of emotion. Zhang Sujiu said: The reason why overseas Chinese and ethnic Chinese in the United States held these commemorative activities that do not forget history and face the future is in the hope that Sino-US relations will be more harmonious and that the friendship between the Chinese and American peoples will be longer-term.

Zhao Meixin said that the Sino-US friendship wall of "Flying Tigers" is of great significance, and all Americans should understand the history of this period of US-China cooperation. The head of the U.S.-China Aviation Heritage Foundation also presented Zhao with a bomber jacket as a memorial of friendship.

In 1941, General Chennault of the United States formed the "Chinese Air Force American Volunteer Air Force to Aid China" ("Flying Tigers") to work with the Chinese military and people to fight against the Japanese invaders. In March 2018, the "Flying Tigers" Sino-US Friendship Wall was inaugurated at the Chennault Air and Military Museum near Los Angeles International Airport, showing the spirit of the "Flying Tigers" to the American community.

Xu Shaoli, president of the American "Flying Tigers" Communication Association, said that the association organized activities to commemorate the "Flying Tigers" to let everyone understand that history and pass on the friendship between China and the United States from generation to generation.
