The National Police has arrested a man, 44 years old, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of ill-treatment against his son, a minor, for whipping him on the back.

As reported by the Police in a press release, the alarm was given by the director of a public school in Palma together with the educator, last Monday, who upon learning of the facts transferred the child to a medical center and activated the protocol for child abuse, which is why a citizen security patrol of the National Police appeared for the first steps.

The principal told the police that when the child arrived at school he told him that the day before his father had assaulted him using an object, since he thought that the child had stolen money.

Apparently, it was not an isolated event since they were aware that there had previously been similar physical abuse towards the child by his father.

The UFAM of the National Police took over the investigation, interviewing the minor, finding out that his father had hit him with an object on his back and arms and that it was not the first time he had done so.

The investigators found that the child had injuries to his back and arms, some of them compatible with those that could produce an object similar to a whip.

The police gathered more information about what happened, obtaining the medical report where the injuries were recorded and carrying out the necessary investigations to clarify the facts, finding out that the mother was aware that the father had hit her son.

Finally, the agents managed to locate the father hours later, on the evening of last Monday, proceeding to his arrest as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of ill-treatment towards his minor son.

In view of the circumstances of the incident, the minor was placed in charge of the child protection service of the Institut Mallorquí d'Afers Socials (IMAS).
