It has been more than 8 months since the opening of the Hong Kong Palace Museum last year, and the number of visitors has exceeded 90,8. In a recent interview with China News Agency, curator Wu Zhihua looked back on the past eight months, and in his opinion, the museum has implemented the concept and original intention of "connection" very successfully.

This concept of "connection" actually has four aspects: connecting the past and the present, connecting the world, connecting the audience, connecting the Mainland and making good use of cultural resources. The Hong Kong Palace Museum has always been committed to interpreting the Palace Museum and Chinese culture in an innovative and uniquely Hong Kong-style curatorial way, enriching their connotations, making ancient civilizations three-dimensional, revitalized, and entering modern life.

The creative and sincere exhibition has won unanimous praise from visitors at home and abroad. Ng revealed that since Hong Kong's "customs clearance" with the Mainland and overseas regions, 25% of the museum visitors are now from the Mainland, half of which are from Mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area, and there are many visitors from other parts of Asia, Europe and the United States.

According to Wu Zhihua's observation, most visitors spend four to five hours in the museum, twice as long as the average museum visit, or even multiple visits, and the museum currently has as many as 4,5 members. "The audience's reviews were very good, they felt that the museum was world-class in terms of architecture, curatorial techniques, and artifacts." Wu Zhihua was very happy about this.

As for connecting with the mainland, Wu Zhihua said with a smile that he had recently "turned on a pivot" and returned to Hong Kong from Beijing in the dust. During his stay in Beijing, Wu Zhihua visited the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, the Palace Museum, etc., reported to the relevant state departments on the situation since the opening of the Hong Kong Palace Museum, and put forward a request for assistance in future development.

Wu Zhihua told reporters that the relevant state departments affirmed the role and contribution of the Hong Kong Palace Museum in promoting cultural development and exchanges, and promised to fully support long-term cooperation between Hong Kong and mainland cultural institutions.

One such collaboration, the Hong Kong Palace Museum and the Sichuan Provincial Cultural Heritage Bureau, will present an exhibition on Sanxingdui at the Hong Kong Palace Museum this year. Regarding the details of the exhibition, Wu Zhihua still insists on "keeping secrets" at this moment, only saying that "it must be the best cultural relics".

Sanxingdui's collection exhibition has been in preparation for two years, i.e. the Hong Kong Palace Museum has been planned before it opens. In Wu Zhihua's view, the mission of the Hong Kong Palace Museum is not limited to the promotion of the Palace Museum, tracing the origin of Chinese civilization is equally important, and presenting the historical context of Chinese civilization with Sanxingdui culture is a good attempt.

It is reported that after the exhibition is completed in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Palace Museum also plans to bring the treasure to the United States for display, "We want to act as a bridge or contact to connect Chinese and foreign culture and history." ”

In order to achieve this goal, Wu Zhihua revealed that this year the Hong Kong Palace Museum will also hold two international seminars on archaeology and cultural heritage conservation, which will bring together experts from home and abroad to discuss topics such as China's cultural heritage protection.

Ng Chi Wah was a civil servant with the highest rank as Deputy Director of Leisure and Cultural Services of the HKSAR Government. About ten years ago, Zhang Zeduan's masterpiece "Qingming Shanghe Tu" was transformed into an animation in Hong Kong for exhibition, and the ancient bustling market came to life, more than 90,<> people watched, and the director of that exhibition was Wu Zhihua. Since then, cooperation and exchanges between Hong Kong and the cultural and museum sectors of the Mainland have become increasingly close.

Looking back, Wu Zhihua feels that a seed for the promotion of traditional Chinese culture was sown at that time, and now the Hong Kong Palace Museum is flourishing and bearing fruit, and China's cultural confidence has been established. (End)
