  • Events Dancer Rafael Amargo arrested for criminal organization and drug trafficking

The National Police has monitored for six months the alleged misdeeds of dancer Rafael Amargo until arresting him for drug trafficking, the same crime for which he was arrested in December 2020. For half a year, they have followed their drug supplier and have been day by day at the door of his home, a low floor of Espiritu Santo Street in the Malasaña neighborhood, checking the entry and exit of drug addicts who were going to buy their doses there. This provoked complaints from neighbors about the constant transfer of drug addicts. The plainclothes agents have been identifying and searching customers to whom he had personally sold small amounts of toxic substances, narcotics and psychotropic substances that "put their health at risk," according to the police report itself.

The police have WhatsApp conversations in which Amargo asks a supposed buyer: "Am I asking for it now?" And then he says, "You already have this here." "It has been a job that has required many hours, a neighborhood police investigation in which even the drug passes have been credited," says a police commander. Last Thursday night Rafael Amargo was arrested in Alicante by the Police for an alleged crime against public health and another of attack against an agent of the authority, when he resisted arrest and tried to assault one of the agents.

According to the report, the agents of the Narcotics group of the Judicial Police of the Centro police station managed to intervene during the investigations different narcotic substances to several people who, supposedly, had just acquired them in the house of Amargo on the street of Espíritu Santo. Specifically, they performed four methamphetamine interventions and one mephedrone.

One of the buyers intercepted by the police, on October 3, 2022, agreed to be taken statement and said that he contacted a certain "Rafa" to buy three grams of methamphetamine and one of mephedrone for a price of 210 euros. The drug addict described the person who sold him drugs in an apartment on Espiritu Santo Street as "Rafa el del teatro" and, after providing his physical characteristics, showed the agents the WhatsApp conversation in which he had ordered the narcotics. Through messages such as "Am I asking for it now?" and "Do not delay, this is here now, and the kid wants to take his money", allegedly sent by Amargo to his client, the Police determined that the dancer acted as an "intermediary" and that it was he who "personally would be carrying out the distribution", according to the statement. Investigators report that, in the course of the investigations, Amargo and his wife went to live in a tourist apartment in the capital.

The modus operandi reported by the report is similar to that contained in the case opened against Amargo at the end of 2020, when the detainee was accused of selling drugs. Then he was attributed a crime against public health, for which the Prosecutor's Office asks for 9 years in prison for the trial, dated for June 2023.

The investigative proceedings carried out now also confirm that the alleged trafficker who provided drugs to the dancer was a Dominican man who lived in an apartment located on Teruel Street, district of Tetuán, along with another suspect of selling narcotics. Last February, the police searched this house and found different amounts of methamphetamine, ecstasy, ketamine, sildenafil, pink and white cocaine, CB2, as well as material for sale. This second arrested, who was in another room in which cash was seized, was provisionally released. Amargo was arrested on Thursday night after performing in a room in Alicante. He is accused of crimes against public health and attack against an agent of the authority, since he allegedly resisted arrest.

Jaime Caballero, Rafael Amargo's lawyer, has defended the innocence of the dancer by claiming that in his house he has never "found a gram of any narcotic substance." The lawyer has said that he has been "arrested because he has a problem with the neighbors and that he is surprised that he is called narcopisobecause no type of substance was ever found in his house, and that, in reality, they are in front of a narcoportal."
