The Environmental Protection Agency's avalanche forecast shows a third on the five-point scale. It is a significant avalanche danger which means that these are dangerous conditions and avalanches can be triggered by small loads. There can also be large spontaneous avalanches.

"The snow and wind today mean that it is laying on the north and northwest slopes," says Per-Olov Vikberg of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's avalanche forecasts.

The significant avalanche danger will persist tomorrow Saturday.

So far this winter, there have been 681 avalanches in the Swedish mountains.

"These are the ones we've been able to find," Vikberg told SVT Nyheter Jämtland. It is estimated that there are twice as many.

During a winter, between 1500 and 1600 avalanches are usually discovered in the Swedish mountains.
