He announced it in early 2020 but the pandemic got in the way of the political agenda and the idea has been delayed. Today, finally, the president of the Board, Juanma Moreno, has visited the headquarters of what will be the new 'embassy' of the Junta de Andalucía in Catalonia, from where the PP Government intends to attract investments and show the moment of opportunities offered in southern Spain.

The Andalusian president rejects the term 'embassy', because Catalonia, for the moment, is still part of Spain. And it has also modulated and softened much in public the discourse that feeds a framework of open competition with the Generalitat or the Community of Madrid by investors. Another thing is what is read between the lines of his gestures and statements.

Without going any further, this Thursday, the president of the Board published on social networks a photo taken at the Seville airport boarding the plane that would take him to Barcelona, in which he seems to emulate the images taken by senior leaders on official trips abroad. The text referred to the other important appointment of today in his agenda: the meeting with the communities of Andalusians in Catalonia within the framework of the celebrations of 28F. This week the Day of Andalusia was also celebrated in Madrid.

"We took off for Barcelona. Work trip to meet with Andalusians living in Catalonia and work on common projects. Wherever you live, Andalusia always keeps you in mind". With a suitcase in hand, the president seems to show that his transfer to Barcelona will be something more than a protocol visit of only a few hours.

It is also not the first time that the Junta has a delegation in Catalonia. In fact, previous socialist governments already had offices in Barcelona, Madrid and Brussels. With spending cuts in 2012, the first was sacrificed although the other two were maintained.

The president of the Junta justified in 2020 the reopening of the headquarters in Barcelona stating that "the independence movement is impoverishing Catalonia and many companies do not want to invest there; Andalusia is likely to obtain these investments and we will also be there for that".
