The study followed two cohorts. One with those who were 22 years old when the corona pandemic began and the other with those who had reached the age of 27. The research highlights the reasons that have made young people have had a hard time during the pandemic years.

The importance of education

According to researcher Jonas Olofsson, who conducted the study, there are factors that clearly influence. People with foreign background and people with low educated people had the hardest time.

"It's very clear that not all young people are affected in the same way. Those who have a weaker socio-economic background are most negatively affected and they are most vulnerable," he says.

The best way to get out of difficult socio-economic situations has proven to be education. The study also shows that education became a refuge for many young people who, during the pandemic, no longer made it into the labor market.

"We can see positive effects with certain initiatives. The most basic thing is that more young people have to get through the education system," says Jonas Olofsson.
