Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on the Facebook platform that day that the company's management will announce a restructuring plan in the next few months.

This round of restructuring plans focuses on flattening the company's organization, eliminating lower-priority projects and reducing hiring rates.

The company will announce a restructuring and layoff plan for the technology department at the end of April, and a change plan for the business department at the end of May.

Overall, the company hopes to reduce the size of its team by about 10,000 people, and another roughly 5,000 open positions will be eliminated.

Zuckerberg said on the 14th that the world economic situation has changed, the pressure of competition has increased, and the company's performance growth has slowed down significantly.

This new economy is likely to last for years, and companies should prepare for it.

Previously, Zuckerberg had said that the company's management theme for 2023 was "Year of Efficiency," and that Meta would focus on becoming a stronger and more flexible enterprise.

In 2022, there will be a "wave of layoffs" in the US technology industry.

According to data from the Layoffs.fyi website, which tracks the layoffs of technology companies, 1,050 technology companies around the world will cumulatively lay off more than 160,000 people in 2022.

Meta announced in November that year that it was cutting 11,000 jobs, or about 13% of its workforce.

Entering 2023, the rate of layoffs in the technology industry will further increase. The cumulative number of layoffs in 483 technology companies around the world has exceeded 128,000.

Among them, Amazon announced on January 4 that it would lay off more than 18,000 employees, and Microsoft announced on January 18 that it would lay off 10,000 employees.

On January 20, Alphabet, the parent company of Google, announced the layoff of 12,000 employees.

Analysts in the industry pointed out that in addition to internal and external reasons such as the "cooling" of the overall US economic situation and executive decision-making mistakes, an important reason for the "wave of layoffs" in the country's technology industry is the over-recruitment of major companies during the COVID-19 epidemic.

The data shows that the number of Meta employees soared from more than 48,000 in March 2020 to more than 87,000 in September 2022.

On the 14th, Meta stock closed up 7.25%.
