"After presenting symptoms of a slight concussion," the 23-year-old rider "will be rested for a period of prescription in accordance with concussion protocols," the cycling team said in a statement.

"It's obviously a disappointment for Tom and for the team," added Rod Ellingworth, one of Ineos' managers. "We saw his form on the Strade Bianche," which Pidcock won the week before his crash, "and I know how much he wanted to continue on the Milan-San Remo," he explained.

According to his team, the Briton will return for the classics season "when he is 100% ready".

The Olympic mountain bike champion, presented as a future tenor of cycling monuments, retired during the final stage of Tirreno-Adriatico on March 12 on a fall 4 km from the finish, after touching the Belgian Wout Van Aert.
