While part of the garbage collectors in Paris have been following a renewable strike against the pension reform for 8 days, more than 5,000 tonnes of waste have been collected on the sidewalks of the capital.

A consequent movement therefore of garbage collectors who, however, have a status very different from that of private sector employees.

More than 5,000 tons of waste in the streets of Paris.

For 8 days, part of the garbage collectors in the capital have been following a renewable strike against the pension reform, at the call of the CGT.

And yet, their status is very different from that of private sector employees.

Municipal garbage collectors are part of the active categories of the public service.

Many garbage collectors will be over the legal age

Like firefighters or nurses, their difficult working conditions justify early retirement.

Currently, the legal age of garbage collectors is set at 57, but the reform will push it back to 59.

And the duration of contributions for a departure at full rate will soon reach 43 annuities, as for private sector employees.

Which, in fact, will push many garbage collectors to exceed the legal age.

For the secretary general of the CGT-Public Services, François Livartowski, this reform is unfair.

"The Covid was not long ago. Garbage collectors were among these agents on the front line. They were told that they had had an essential role. And there for any reward, it's two more years There are very few garbage collectors who retire in good health. We die earlier than average and we want to take away two years of retirement, "he laments.

Despite everything, the reform does not affect two achievements of civil servants in active categories: the calculation of the pension over the last six months of their career, and the possibility of leaving at full rate from the age of 62 for incomplete careers.
