For Ron DeSantis, supporting Ukraine means giving priority to dealing with a conflict abroad instead of defending the United States itself from its internal scourges.
For example, raises the one who has not yet officially declared himself a candidate, against "
the drugs that enter our country
" and kill "
tens of thousands of Americans
", and while "
our arsenal, crucial for the defense of our country is shrinking visibly
.
Donald Trump's reaction: "
Everything I want, he wants too
".
In fact, on Ukraine, the governor of Florida shares
the same views as the former president
.
Both men are racing ahead in next year's Republican presidential primary - with declared nominee Donald Trump at an advantage over Florida's governor.
Position widely shared among Republicans
By positioning himself in this way, Ron DeSantis is following the opinion of 40% of Republicans and independents of Republican sensitivity, who, according to the polls, believe that the United States supports Ukraine too much.
To win the race for the nomination, “
Republicans are ready to take far too extreme positions, even if this weakens our allies and democracy
”, react the Democrats.
However, other potential or declared candidates for the Republican primary strongly defend Ukraine, such as former Vice President Mike Pence or California Governor Nikki Haley.
