Two people were killed and 9 others injured after they were run over - yesterday, Monday - by a pick-up truck in the city of Amke, in the Canadian province of Quebec. The accident comes a month after a deliberate accident targeting a nursery near Montreal, killing and injuring a number of children.

Quebec police spokeswoman Helen Saint-Pierre said that a 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene, explaining that the investigation is still underway into the circumstances of the accident.

"Everything indicates that this is an isolated act, there is no more danger in the area, and there is only one suspect," she added.

CTV News said the driver of the vehicle was arrested after fleeing the scene.

The accident occurred shortly after 15:00 (19:00 GMT) yesterday, Monday, in the city center of Amke, which has a population of more than 6,000, and is located in northeastern Quebec City.

Eyewitnesses told local media that a pickup truck hit a number of pedestrians on a sidewalk, before it continued driving for about 500 meters and ran over people.

The police stated that the two dead, one of whom was in his sixties and the other in his seventies, pointed out that a number of people, including 3 children, were injured.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Twitter that he was waiting for more information on the incident.

The incident comes a month after a man rammed his bus into a nursery near Montreal, killing two 4-year-olds and injuring 6 others.

And in 2018, a man rammed into a crowd in Toronto (Canada's largest city), killing 11 and injuring 16 in the deadliest trampling attack in the city's history.
