Emmanuel Macron receives this Monday afternoon nearly six associations of elected officials at the Élysée.

The president, who has wanted to reform French institutions since his election in 2017, wants to consult local actors to consider all possible avenues.

Among the first ideas mentioned, the redistricting of certain regions.

Presidents of regions, Assembly of the departments of France ... Emmanuel Macron receives this Monday afternoon six associations of elected officials at the Élysée.

The Head of State wants to consult as many people as possible to best prepare his future institutional reform.

Among the tracks envisaged: the redrawing of certain regions, in particular those of Occitanie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, New Aquitaine or even the Grand Est.

Objective encouraged by the boss of Renaissance, Stéphane Séjourné: to restore a close link between the region and the citizens, but also to stick to the geography of traditional regions.

A territorial adviser in reflection

A project to which the current regional presidents are opposed, reluctant to see their scope reduced.

Another track matured by Emmanuel Macron: the creation of a single territorial adviser, which would be the product of the merger of the regional adviser and the departmental adviser.

The idea, imagined at the time by Nicolas Sarkozy, aims to move towards more decentralization, to reduce the number of civil servants and to streamline the administration.

Finally, Emmanuel Macron is considering in particular the return of the seven-year term, the reduction in the number of deputies or the introduction of a dose of proportionality in the legislative elections.

To be voted, the reform of the Constitution must be submitted for the approval of the Assembly and the Senate before being voted either by referendum, or by 3/5 of the two chambers meeting in Congress.
