On March 15 and 16, the Russian capital, Moscow, will host a meeting on Syria between the deputy foreign ministers of Turkey, Russia, Iran, and the Assad regime.

Turkish diplomatic sources told Anadolu Agency today, Monday, that Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Burak Akçapar will head the Turkish delegation at the meeting.

She pointed out that the Russian President's Special Representative to the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, will head the Russian delegation, while Iran will be represented by Ali Asghar Hajji, the Political Affairs Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, pointing to the participation of the Syrian regime's Deputy Foreign Minister Ayman Sousan.

Movements are taking place on the regional scene to restore relations with the Syrian regime, as Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu discussed with his Iranian counterpart Hussein Amir Abdollahian on March 8 in the capital, Ankara, a number of bilateral and regional issues, foremost of which is the rapprochement between Ankara and Damascus.

Abdullahian said that Iran supports the rapprochement between Ankara and Damascus, calling for the return of relations between the two countries to their normal state, while Davutoglu said that Iran has expressed its desire to participate in a tripartite meeting with the Syrian side and Turkey.

On February 27, the Egyptian Foreign Minister visited Turkey and Syria, on a visit that is the first of its kind in 10 years, and it came - according to observers - in the context of completing a long path and efforts to restore relations between Cairo and Ankara on the one hand, and Cairo and the Syrian regime on the other, after That it went through several turns during the past decade.

And before that, on February 15, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi visited Syria, in a visit that was the first of its kind between the two neighboring countries, which have long been at loggerheads on regional issues, and Jordanian officials explained at the time that the aim of the visit was to show solidarity after the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and northern Syria on February 6.

The Emirati Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, also visited Damascus last January and met the head of the Syrian regime, Bashar al-Assad. This was the second visit by the Emirati minister, as he had previously visited the Syrian capital in November 2021, for the first time since 2011.
