Virginie Girod SEASON 2022 - 202305h00, March 13, 2023

Listen to the story of Louis IX, more commonly known as Saint-Louis, told by Virginie Girod in an unpublished story in two episodes.

Saint Louis is an exemplary medieval king, the sovereign who dispenses justice at the foot of his oak tree.

The 13th century is often considered by historians to be the “century of Saint Louis”.

And for good reason, brave and combative knight, skillful and wise sovereign, Louis IX brought the kingdom of the Capetians to its peak, with unparalleled prestige.

Christian king, pious leader, Saint Louis appears as the model of the Christian king as the men of the "beautiful Middle Ages" represented him.

His reign helped found the idea of the incarnation of political and spiritual power in a singular man and no longer just in a universal God.

After the death of his father Louis VIII Le Lion, on November 7, 1226,

Louis IX accedes to the throne and is crowned in Reims the same year.

Louis IX becomes king at the age of 12.

His reign is marked by the tutelage and regency of his mother.

The fate of the kingdom is thus in the hands of the energetic Spaniard: Blanche de Castille.

Louis was born on April 12, 1214 at the royal castle of Poissy.

His grandfather, Philippe-Auguste, still in power at that time, worked to strengthen the Capetian dynasty and to recover the lands that the English crown claimed to possess, namely, the entire west coast of the country from Normandy to Aquitaine.

Louis's mother, Blanche de Castille, is a pious and uncompromising princess.

She raises her children in the fear of God.

She often told her son, Louis IX, that she would rather see him dead than commit a sin… “At the Heart of History is a Europe 1 Studio production
