The Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, said that the attack on the Nord Stream lines requires special forces that are available primarily in Washington and London, as he put it.

Patrushev added that Moscow insists on conducting an objective international investigation into the bombing, stressing the need for Moscow's participation in it.

Patrushev said in a press interview that any accusations made in isolation from the results of a fair trial cannot be credible.

Earlier, Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that the European Union completely ignores any talks on the need for an investigation into the explosions in the Nord Stream gas pipelines.

Russia has repeatedly asked to be allowed to join investigations into the explosions that caused cracks in three of the four gas pipelines in Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 that link Russia with Germany and pass under the Baltic Sea.

With the outbreak of the Russian war in Ukraine, the two gas pipelines entered the heart of geopolitical tension fueled by Moscow's decision to cut off gas supplies to Europe in response to Western sanctions.

On September 26, 2022, a gas leak was detected from four large points, preceded by underwater explosions, on the two gas pipelines connecting Russia with Germany, all of which are in international waters.

Although the pipelines were not operational when the explosion occurred, they contained large quantities of methane gas.

The New York Times stated that a "pro-Ukrainian group" is behind this sabotage, based on information obtained by US intelligence, without giving details of the identities of these elements or the "pro-Ukrainian group".

The New York Times reported that the data collected by the US intelligence agencies indicated that the perpetrators of sabotage in the two gas pipelines were "enemies of Russian President Vladimir Putin."

However, the Kremlin rejected what was published by the newspaper, and considered it an attempt to "distract attention" and a "coordinated media stunt", as Kiev denied it for its part.
