Chinese President Xi Jinping plans to visit Russia as early as next week for a summit with Putin, Reuters reported on the 13th, citing multiple sources.

A Russian government source also told NHK that "President Xi's visit to Russia is being coordinated next week."

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his intention to invite President Xi to Moscow this spring at an online summit meeting held at the end of December last year. When he met with a committee member in Moscow, he said that he was "waiting for President Xi's visit to Russia."

If the summit meeting is realized, it is expected that opinions will be exchanged on the situation in Ukraine, but spokesman Peskov of the Russian Presidential Office responded to reporters' questions on the 13th, "I have nothing to say at the moment. I'll let you know when I'm ready," he said.

On the other hand, the electronic edition of the Wall Street Journal, a leading American newspaper, reported on the 13th that President Xi is planning an online meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky after his visit to Russia.

If the talks take place, it will be the first since Russia's invasion of Ukraine last February.

President Zelensky has indicated his willingness to hold a meeting with President Xi while appreciating the 12-point document released by China last month calling for dialogue and a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

As the United States repeatedly urges China not to provide military aid to Russia, attention will be paid to what kind of diplomacy President Xi, who has entered an unprecedented third term as both the Communist Party and the country's top, will develop.
