China News Agency, Paris, March 10 (Reporter Li Yang) On March 10, local time, the 36th France-UK Summit was held in Paris, France.

French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak attended the summit.

The one-day summit focused on issues such as how to deal with illegal immigration in the English Channel.

This is the first time the Franco-British summit has been held in five years.

Sunak visited the Elysee Palace in Paris on the same day and met with Macron.

According to the official arrangement, the two will attend the plenary meeting of the summit together and participate in the round table meeting between the enterprises of the two countries.

After the summit, the two also attended a press conference together.

It is reported that France and the United Kingdom seek to reach more consensus on the management of illegal immigration in the English Channel through this summit, and make institutional arrangements on the related costs of controlling the surrounding areas of the English Channel.

France and Britain reached a new agreement on related issues last year, aiming to work together to prevent illegal immigrants from northern France crossing the English Channel by boat to the UK.

In addition, the situation in Ukraine, energy security, and European defense are also topics of discussion at the summit.

High-level officials from France and Britain in charge of foreign affairs, defense and home affairs attended the summit.

Macron said through social media on the 10th that the fates of France and the United Kingdom are connected, and they also face challenges together. The two countries will cooperate on many important issues.

Sunak also issued a statement before attending the summit emphasizing the importance of the relationship between Britain and France, stating that a strong partnership between the two countries is "essential".

He also said the two countries were working together to stem the onslaught of illegal immigration.

After the Franco-British summit, King Charles III of the United Kingdom will also visit France at the end of this month and will meet Macron.

This is Charles III's first official foreign trip since taking the throne last year.
