The inclusion of the right to abortion in the Constitution has recently been the subject of debate.

Emmanuel Macron, who has not yet touched the Constitution, has revealed how he intends to do so: the freedom of women to have abortions will be included in a constitutional revision bill .

On the occasion of International Women's Rights Day, Emmanuel Macron recalled his intention to strengthen the right to abortion by enshrining it in the Constitution.

To do this, two options presented themselves to him: to consult the French via a referendum, or to convene the deputies and senators in congress at Versailles.

The president has chosen the second option, because by choosing to include abortion in the Constitution through a constitutional revision bill, he favors parliamentarians.

It will suffice for him to obtain the majority of three-fifths of the votes cast by the tenants of the Assembly and the Senate.

Other thorny issues addressed by the bill

The advantage is not negligible for the Head of State since it avoids giving visibility to anti-abortion, if a referendum campaign was envisaged.

Thus, the State will not have to assume the reimbursement of campaign expenses nor to control the balance of the airtime of the camps favorable or unfavorable to abortion.

Moreover, this constitutional revision bill will not only be devoted to abortion.

The question of the statutes of New Caledonia or Corsica will also be dealt with there, as will a reform of the institutions with example, a revision of the duration of the presidential mandate.

Last year, during his campaign, the candidate president said he was in favor of a return to the seven-year term with mid-term legislative elections.

This bill is therefore far from being definitively tied up and can still leave room for debate, which explains why Emmanuel Macron took care to specify that its preparation is planned for the coming months.
