Ahead of International Women's Day on March 8, the Spanish government has unveiled a bill that will mandate a more equal participation of women and men in politics and business.

This "gender equality bill" was approved by the Sanchez administration in Spain at a cabinet meeting on the 7th.

In addition to requiring that at least 40% of the directors of listed companies be women



by July next year, the bill

also requires that ▽ Cabinet ministers, local government administrative organs, and representatives of public organizations be appointed by 2028. 40% or more women by 2020.



The EU = European Union and other European countries have similar goals, but the Sanchez administration is already actively promoting gender equality in the world, with women accounting for more than 60% of cabinet ministers.



Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Carlos Calvinho said at a news conference after the Cabinet meeting that the bill "will break the glass ceiling between the public and private sectors and make Spain the most advanced country in the world in terms of gender equality".



It is attracting attention as a new movement in Europe where women's participation in politics and business is progressing.
