The project is a collaboration between the Stadsdelsmammorna, Studiefrämjandet and Helsingborg's library, and at Wednesday's opening several of the artists will be on site to meet the visitors.

The neighborhood mothers are today run as a non-profit association, with the aim of helping new arrivals find a way into Swedish society.

Sara Altinawi, who is an activity coordinator within the library's cultural administration and has been involved in running the project, hopes that the exhibition will open more eyes to the association and its work.

- It is important for us that those who come here see the art and the artists, and that they get to know that we also have a lot of artists in Stadsdelsmammorna, says Sara Altinawi.

"Delighted to show off my culture"

Four exhibitors from Lebanon and Syria participate in the project, all with a background in the art world or the textile industry.

The exhibition mainly consists of paintings, but also dresses made from flags and curtains, where the works have been inspired by the culture of the artists' home countries.

Hala Touman, just like the other exhibitors, has been interested in drawing and painting since she was a child.

She has on several previous occasions exhibited her paintings in Aleppo, but this is the first time she is allowed to show her art in Sweden.

- This is a first step for me, to be part of this exhibition.

I feel very happy to show my culture to people, and I hope they like my pictures, says Hala Touman.

The exhibition is on display at Dunker's cultural center in Helsingborg until March 22.
