  • Events Blow by salmonellosis to Casa Dani: the family business that invoices four million a year in tortillas

Food poisoning at the

famous Casa Dani tortilla restaurant in the Salamanca district

of Madrid could have been caused by several workers who were unknowingly carriers of salmonella, according to the first conclusions of Madrid Salud researchers.

The studies carried out in the laboratories have determined that the origin of the outbreak is in at least two employees with the bacteria and that the food was in good condition, as confirmed by sources from the Madrid City Council.

The outbreak of

salmonellosis in

the Madrid restaurant Casa Dani

caused more than 106 affected people

who requested health care, including 14 people who have required hospital admission.

As a result of this outbreak,

one person had to be admitted to the Intensive Care Unit

of a hospital due to worsening symptoms, although she has already been transferred to the ward and is doing well.

Currently the premises are suspended from activity by the district board.

This will be maintained until the company draws up

a self-monitoring protocol that includes the indications of Madrid Salud

both in relation to hygiene measures for workers and food handling.

For the elaboration of said protocol by the company, it will have the advice of Madrid Salud and the health technicians of the Salamanca District Board.

"As a result of the outbreak, and once the analyzes have been completed, the relevant file will be initiated, which may or may not conclude with a sanction," according to the Madrid City Council.

The restaurant assured as soon as the poisoning was discovered that since its opening and throughout 32

years "the control guidelines and requirements set by the Ministry of Health have always been scrupulously followed.

The daily and weekly controls required by the authorities of all our products".
